I’m Mickey…
I am an artist, a creator, a sister, an aunt, a partner, and a cat mom.
My name actually is Mikayla King, but everyone knows me by my nickname Mickey. I currently reside in Kinston, NC with my partner Nick and our cat, Rahliegh. I love spending time with family and friends when I have the chance. I am a passionate artist who loves creating work about people and for people.
My passion for art led me into earning my BFA in Studio Art at Coker University in Hartsville, SC, also my hometown. I spent my time in undergrad honing my painting and drawing skills. My art style can be described as loosely impressionistic, full of life and color.
My personal art interests are concepts of capitalism and personal relationships. I explore ideas of capitalism and personal relationships through drawn landscapes and painted portraits. My work speaks upon our personal relationship with our work, capital, and surrounding environments. I raise questions about the intersectionality of class, race, gender, and capital in America.
Outside of my personal work, I am a hard worker driven to pursue an art career by creating work for others. I have created commissioned pieces for Tracey Redfern, Micheal Gainey Kelly, Shug’s Steakhouse, and The Modern Medical Spa.
Now, I am pursuing my career more in depth as painter, drawer, and artist of memories… weddings, homes, families, pets, etc. I hope to work with you in the future.
